My hair is thick and kinky but I realized that I was tearing my hair out when I was combing it. I only need to run my fingers through my hair while it's wet and carefully detangle it with my fingers. I use a lot of conditioner during this process so it's pretty fast. I shed less hair and my hair is thicker and longer! Hope that helps =)

I also use some mouse or IC hair gel. As for style, i usually do twistouts or bantu knotouts, or the usual afro puff. But every now & then I rock the Afro. What i do when styling my hair I do the twist or knots wet, let them completely dry, after they are dry I take them out wet my hair again so the style falls like I want.

Folks... 4a hair IS very coily. 4a is literally tiny curls and coils.
As soon as some people see curls of any kind, no matter how SMALL or TIGHT they are, they scream type 3. lol
Type 3 isn't the only hair with a definite curl pattern.

The only difference is back when I was natural my hair didn't hang at all. When it was wet with product it would shrink up unlike in part 1 where yours seems to hang. That's why I feel the typing system isn't very useful--two people can have the same curls but the behavior of the hair is very different.

My hair is about 80% the same texture now. It takes patience if you opt out of the big chop.

I am encouraged and am determined to go natural. No perm since Jan 2010. I am not a 4b but my textrue is mixed like yours. Got about 3 inches in back to trim off. Natural hair about 3 inches all over. Only blow drying occassionally but no other heat. Using L'oreal Sulfa Free and Cantu Shea Butter products. Love the feel and management of my hair. Stay encouraged and hang in there.

@DeCaY45 first you need to find your curl pattern, then search youtube to find the right products to use, find somone on here who has close to the same hair type and watch their videos and ask what type of products they use. When u find the right product for your hair, stick with it. Try marvalousmixedracehair.blogspot. or other types of blogs, dealing with this hair requires alot of research.

I'm a biracial guy who for a while hated my hair because it wasn't straight, I love asian straight hair, I can do whatever my style dictates(sorry for spelling errors) but I've been thinking sometimes I miss being natural, my hair type especialy for me is VERRRY unique very much like the woman in 2:21 however more redish brown with a blonde tint, and incredibly think and shiny, but still like straight hair, so I'm torn,lol

I have not combed my natrual hair for six months! My hair is thick and kinky but I realized that I was tearing my hair out when I was combing it. I only need to run my fingers through my hair while it's wet and carefully detangle it with my fingers. I use a lot of conditioner during this process so it's pretty fast. I shed less hair and my hair is thicker and longer! Hope that helps =)

Just to let you know, she most likely meant that you should finger comb your hair... look up vids for more info... combs tend to make the knots in type 3 and 4 hair more prevalent and easily break off the hair. Youll like little snapping noises coming from your hair.

i'm 3mths as well. wat u wana do is give ur hair moisture. i wet my hair everyday but wash my hair maybe 1-2times a wk. b very careful with the products u use. do ur research on the ingredents in every product u use. and stay FAR away from alcohol nd pretrolum based products. oh nd grease clod the pores in ur scalp so b careful with dat as well. theres a lot to knw in such a lil time. do ur research and u should b fine. i had no help so i had to do my research. check out my vids wen u can. thnx.

Hey not all hair is meant to be combed & straightened out like others. If you have really thik & curly hair than it's best to let it take it's natural shape or you can't break it off with a comb while pulling. my 2 cents [=

Type 2 is way off. You contain some 3b/c in there. The first image was indeed a type 2a. Type 2b is like Salma Hayek or Shakira. Chilli is a type 3a. You can easily make a 3a look like a 2 by manipulation. Big waves are type 2. Big curl is a type 3a.

I have narrowed it down to mostly the natural oils, shea butter, and I mostly use Burt's Bee's shampoo and conditioners. I also use some mouse or IC hair gel. As for style, i usually do twistouts or bantu knotouts, or the usual afro puff. But every now & then I rock the Afro. What i do when styling my hair I do the twist or knots wet, let them completely dry, after they are dry I take them out wet my hair again so the style falls like I want.
